Mountain Center for the Arts Community Sing-Alongs These sing-alongs are purely for fun, not for performance. Anyone who loves to sing is invited to participate. Songs range from the silly to the sublime, from songs we learned in childhood to Broadway tunes, and more. Each month features some kind of theme. Sing-alongs have seen a revival in recent years. They may be held in private homes, community centers, churches, or schools. Most are informal, with the participants engaged in choosing the songs to sing. Pete Seeger, who was instrumental in the folk music era, still leads a sing-along in his community, ‘though he is in is ‘80’s. Come join us in the Valley for a chance to raise your voice with fellow song-lovers. |

Mountain Center for the Arts Planned Giving Enables Individuals and Community To Respond with Generosity by Jessica Klarp Black Mountain is rich. It is rich in community, rich in culture, rich in its history, rich in natural resources and most importantly rich because of the diversity, talent and generosity of its people. It was due to the generosity and the foresight of a group of local patrons who recognized the cultural and artistic need in the community to establish the Black Mountain Center for the Arts 15 years ago. read more >> |

Rich Offerings
at the BMCA Provide Thousands with New Experiences On the edge of the downtown historic district a river flows. It is a
river of people flowing through the Black Mountain Center for the Arts.
Black Mountain citizens and visitors have always gravitated toward this
important building: it used to house the City Hall, the Library and the
Jail. During World War II, folks lined up to use the phone booth in the
lobby. In the 1980’s, the Town decided to move to a new building. 225
West State Street sat empty and abandoned, ready to be torn down. |

Special
Events Raise New Audiences and Special Support for the Arts Six or seven times a year the Black Mountain Center for the Arts offers something new. But then any creative endeavor, by its very nature, is always new and innovative. “Special events are designed to stretch us,” said
Gale Jackson, Executive Director for the Center for the Arts, referring
to those opportunities that fall outside the dozens of regularly scheduled
programs and hundreds of individual classes that occur each year at the
historic building on State Street. |

Volunteering
Connects Community: Arts Center Depends on Valley Volunteers For the past three years Don Talley has been volunteering with the Black
Mountain Center for the Arts, specifically for the monthly Upbeat! Concert
Series. Among a host of other reasons for giving his time, Talley says, “It’s
a lot of fun. Through my involvement I’ve heard a great variety
of music and had the chance to get to know the performers better. I’ve
also gotten to know several of our regular attendees and see them at
other community events.” |
