red june6th Annual Auction for the Arts Set for Black Mountain’s Center for the Arts

The 6th Annual Auction for the Arts will be held at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, at 225 W. State Street in the original City Hall in downtown Black Mountain, on Saturday, March 5, at 6 pm. The evening will begin with a silent auction, along with heavy hors d’oeuvres and a dessert and beverage bar, followed by a live auction with auctioneer John Hill of Weaverville, who generously donates his time for this event. The number of seats for the auction is limited to 100, so advance reservations are highly recommended. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Besides functional art and crafts by area artisans, lots of packages will be offered in the Auction. These are combinations of items that have a theme and will provide enjoyment over several months for the highest bidder. A Grandparent’s Package is a big item, and will include a combo of things to do with grandchildren – including toys and day passes to local attractions. A Local Foods Package comes with a CSA membership and foods from nearby farms. The Automobile Package will include a discount on tire purchase, car detailing and other maintenance. For Theater and Dinner lovers, the package will contain tickets for stage plays and gift certificates to restaurants. A package for the Gardener will include garden tools, supplies, services and delivered stone.

art auction fundraiserThis is a fundraiser for the non-profit Arts Center, whose mission is “to bring arts to the people and people to the arts.” According to Gale Jackson, Executive Director of the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, “We extend gratitude to two groups of supporters for this Auction – those who donate items, and those who attend the auction and bid on items. Our attendees keep coming back every year for this event because it is such a fun-filled evening. The auction helps raise money for our programming and operational expenses after the cold winter when the tourist season is at its lowest. ”

Come out and support the arts locally, find a one-of-a-kind item to bid on, and enjoy an evening of good food, fun and friendship with others in our community who want to help the Arts Center continue its mission of “Bringing arts to the people and people to the arts.” Auction chair for 2011 is Bob Wardwell, along with committee members Merle Arcand, Jamie Dose, Janet Randolph, Julia Burr, Lee Taylor, Don Sinclair
