Black Mountain Center for the Arts to present one evening Holiday theater

National touring theatre company Acts of Renewal will present a refreshing yuletide show, "Rediscovering Christmas," at The Black Mountain Center for the Arts on Saturday, Dec. 22nd at 7:30pm.  The Center is located at 225 W. State Street in the old City Hall.  Tickets are $10 and reservations may be made by calling 828/669-0930.

Acts of Renewal actors Jim and Carol Anderson Shores engage the audience with a series of vignettes that invite young and old to step anew into the wonder, the hilarity, and the joy of Christmas.  Following their presentation the audience will be invited to choose favorite carols of the season to sing together.

“Rediscovering Christmas” is comprised of a series of vignettes. They range from the opening comedic tale of two blue collar shepherds who are in the right place at the right time on Christmas eve, to a piece about dealing with in-laws at Christmas, to a finale about an irrepressible Jamaican wise man who retells the Christmas story like it’s never been told before. As a special part of the production for the Black Mountain Center for the Arts Jim and Carol will perform their adaptation of the beloved Truman Capote short story, "A Christmas Memory."

There's always a lot of laughter and by the end a sense of connection and celebration that I think people long to find during this season.”

Jim and Carol are repeat performers with national and regional organizations where the duo present their original scripts for many arena events as well on nationally syndicated radio programs.  Their material has been aired on PBS and their reputation for excellence in live theatre has been long-standing. Family Life Executive Director Dennis Rainey says, "I would heartily recommend them - they are THE best!"  Gary Chapman, speaker and best selling author of The Five Love Languages says,  "Jim and Carol perform hilarious, moving and powerful theatre that speaks right to the hearts of their audience."

Graduates of UNC-Chapel Hill, the husband-wife team have ties to Montreat College, where Jim currently serves on the faculty, and Carol previously taught theater.  Jim and Carol and their two sons, Zachary and Alexander, live in Black Mountain.
