  • Burlesque for Every Body | 6-Week Beginn

    Curious about burlesque? This six-week mini-mester is your invitation to explore sass, style, and self-expression in a supportive, joyful space. You’ll learn one complete, flirty combo featuring glove peels, boa moments, and robe reveals—building week by week so you can grow comfortable, confident, and captivating. No dance experience necessary. Heels optional. Boas and gloves available to borrow—just bring a robe or front-opening layer and your fabulous self. 6 Weeks Wednesday Evenings (7:00 - 8:00) April 1st - May 6th What To Wear/ Bring: Close-fitting dancewear or athletic clothing that allows for free movement and lets instructors see alignment. Dance Heels are optional No dangly or loose jewelry (small stud earrings are okay) Bring A filled water bottle Bring a Robe or a shirt that opens in the front You can bring your own boa/gloves, but some will be available to borrow Please wear clothes that make you feel confident and excited to dance! ---------------------------------------- BMCA is piloting a sliding scale tuition model to make our programs more accessible to everyone in the Swannanoa Valley. This class offers three pricing tiers: a Community Rate for those experiencing financial hardship or on a fixed income, a Standard Rate for those who can comfortably cover costs, and a Supporter Rate for those who are financially stable and want to help a neighbor participate. Please choose the tier that honestly reflects your current situation — no documentation required, no questions asked. We trust you. This is a pilot program. Your participation helps BMCA learn how to make the sliding scale work well for our whole community.   • Ballroom 1 (Ballroom Basics for 2)

    Starting February 16th—just two days after Valentine's Day—Ballroom 1 is the perfect way to extend the romance and give your special someone an experience you'll both treasure. We can't think of a better night out for you and somebody you care about than learning to dance together! Music, dancing, and fun are guaranteed as you and your partner explore the exciting world of Latin and Ballroom dancing. From the smooth elegance of foxtrot and rumba to the infectious rhythms of salsa, merengue, and swing, you'll discover styles that will have you moving with confidence and joy. This 4-week course is designed for beginners—no experience necessary! You'll learn the basics of social dancing and finally be prepared for your next wedding, party, or special event.     Discover the beauty and strength of ballet this winter in Adult Ballet: Foundations—perfect for beginners or anyone looking to explore dance in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. This class focuses on basic posture, port de bras, turnout, alignment, and simple combinations, helping you build a strong foundation to move forward in your dance journey. Along the way, you’ll improve core strength, stability, posture, and bone health, all while enjoying a low-impact, mindful workout that nurtures your body, mind, and brain. No prior dance experience is needed—just bring curiosity, energy, and a willingness to move. Step into ballet this winter and enjoy the confidence, focus, and vitality it can bring to your everyday life.   • Music Together: Spring Mornings

    Make music an exciting part of your child’s life with Music Together®—a joyful, inclusive class for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them®. Each week, families gather for 45 minutes of singing, dancing, rhythm chants, instrument play, and movement in a relaxed, non-performance-oriented setting. You’ll have so much fun making music together, you may not even realize how much learning is taking place! Through developmentally appropriate activities, children build confidence, coordination, and a lifelong love of music—while grownups discover easy, playful ways to bring music into everyday life at home. ✨ Everyone participates at their own level ✨ A welcoming, community-centered environment ✨ New song collection each season Thursdays | 10:00–10:45 AM April 16 – June 4 (8 weeks) $185 Tuition includes a beautifully illustrated songbook, digital music access (plus optional CD), and access to the Music Together app—so the music and learning continue all week long.   • Tap 3 || Ages 12 - 16

    Join us every Tuesday at 5:45 PM for Tap 3, a class that fuses Broadway Dance, Jazz, and Rhythmic Tap through percussive footwork and character portrayal. Appropriately fitting tap shoes are required. Geared towards students with some previous dance experience, this class is an extension of the concepts learned in Tap 2; however, beginner dancers ages 12+ are welcome. Each class includes warm-up exercises, across-the-floor combinations, center floor work, and excerpts of choreography to familiarize students with the tap genre. Dancers will develop their musicality, precision, and coordination, and participate in fun activities centered around dance history and artistic expression. This class offers an optional end-of-season recital in May. Tuesdays 5:45 - 6:45 Ages 12 - 16 or younger, by instructor discretion $65/month

    MoveAbility is an inclusive dance class for teens and adults of all abilities to explore movement, creativity, and self-expression in a supportive space. Classes meet Mondays from 6:15–7:00 PM, at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. These pay-what-you-wish 45-minute sessions include gentle warm-ups, creative movement activities, and opportunities to dance solo, with a partner, or in a group—no experience needed! All are welcome, including individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities, those who use mobility aids, and anyone looking for a joyful, community-centered movement experience.     Join us every Tuesday at 4:00 PM for Tap 1, a beginner tap class perfect for young students who want to explore music and movement. No previous dance experience is required for this fun and welcoming class. Appropriately fitting tap shoes are required. This class fuses Broadway Dance, Jazz, and Rhythmic Tap for a well-rounded introduction to the tap genre. Students will learn to create sounds with their tap shoes, accompanied by music, to develop an understanding of rhythm, performance, and musicality. Each week, dancers will enhance their strength and coordination through warm-up exercises, across-the-floor combinations, center floor work, and excerpts of choreography. By participating in creative movement activities and games, students will create fun memories and friendships, all while familiarizing themselves with early concepts of dance history and improvisation. This class offers an optional end-of-season recital in May. Tuesdays 4:00 - 4:45 Ages 7-9 $55/month

    This jazz dance class is perfect for young students who want to build their dance technique and learn fun, upbeat moves and choreography. Each week, your student will enhance their strength, coordination, and flexibility through different dance technique exercises, traveling steps, and choreography. Students will also get to create fun memories and friendships through creative movement activities and games. Although this class builds on concepts learned in Kids in Motion 2, no previous dance experience is required for this fun and welcoming class! This class has an end-of-season recital option in May.     Nurturing Young Hearts through Harmony and Play Turn your Monday afternoons into a musical celebration! The Maracas Collection invites babies, toddlers, and their grown-ups into a research-based environment where "play" is the primary teacher. Over eight weeks, you and your child will explore new rhythmic patterns and tonal melodies through a curated selection of songs and instrument play. Beyond the joy of singing and dancing, this class focuses on Primary Music Development, helping your child achieve basic music competence (singing in tune and keeping a steady beat). You’ll leave each session with practical "musical tools" to support your child’s cognitive, emotional, and social growth at home, all while building lasting bonds with other families in the Black Mountain community.

  • Open-Level Adult Dance

    Start dancing in BMCA’s low-pressure environment with Open-Level Adult Dance. Each class will feature a full-body warm-up, specific skill practice, and a dance combination to your favorite music! Dance combinations will be worked on for two weeks in a row to ensure all of our dancers can master all of the skills and moves involved. This eclectic class will combine concepts from ballet, jazz, and modern dance styles, but is designed to fit you! We encourage students to request specific songs, styles, or skills they want to learn. Dancers of all levels are welcome to shake a tail feather with us on Wednesdays at 5:30! Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30 with Claire Ages 16+ $20/class or $15/ 4 classes BMCA Members can receive a special discount with code "MEMBER25"
